"ENDA CLIMATE WEEK 2023: An Energetic Start to a Sustainable Future"
The countdown has come to an end, and it is with contagious enthusiasm that we inaugurated the first day of the second edition of ENDA Climate Week, focused on the territorialization of climate policies and local actions. This event took place on 31 July 2023 in Saly, bringing together passionate and determined minds around the fight against climate change, with the promise of creating positive vibes.
At dawn, an energetic atmosphere reigned, bringing together participants from diverse backgrounds, all driven by the enthusiasm to get involved in this crucial battle for our planet. To inaugurate this week of awareness and action, Mr. Emmanuel SECK, the new director of ENDA ENERGIE, unveiled the program of a day full of discoveries and sharing.
What makes this initiative even more exceptional is the diversity of voices that have been raised in support of the climate cause. The representatives of the Chairman of the council of the inter-municipal agreement of the small rating and the Directorate of the Environment and Classified Institutions (DEEC) expressed their commitment and their unwavering support.
Climate change is affecting all regions, and coastal areas remain among the most vulnerable. This concern unites all the actors present on this first day, ready to reflect on the subject to find alternatives and solutions.
The exchange of ideas quickly evolved into a whirlwind of inspiration when Samba FALL captivated the audience with innovative visions of the Long-Term Strategies (LTS) and Long-Term Vision (LTV) for low-carbon and resilient development in Senegal. This state initiative, supported by ENDA ENERGIE, sparked a lively debate, demonstrating the importance of innovation and approach.
La journée s’est poursuivie avec des témoignages inspirants de personnalités telles que M. Diouck, mettant en lumière l’impact des collectivités territoriales dans la mise en œuvre de solutions durables. Monsieur Samba Fall, responsable du climat et des transitions systémiques à ENDA ÉNERGIE, a souligné la nécessité d’une planification à long terme pour relever les défis climatiques auxquels le Sénégal est confronté. La première session de la semaine climat et énergie a également permis à M. Ndiaga FALL, chargé de projet à la Mairie de Pikine, de partager des expériences stimulantes de la COP27, offrant ainsi un aperçu des enjeux mondiaux de cette lutte commune. C’est dans cette dynamique qu’Ibrahima NDIAYE de la ville de DAKAR a déclaré : « Le plus important lorsque nous nous rendons à la COP, c’est de préparer une communication solide. Si nous n’avons pas un agenda bien défini, nous risquons de n’accomplir que du tourisme. »
A highlight of the day was the panel on the contribution of local authorities to the NDC (Nationally Determined Contribution) of Senegal. The different communities expressed their needs and aspirations, highlighting the essential role of local actors in the transition to a sustainable future.
This first day of ENDA Climate Week, supported by OXFAM, the European Union, APRI and ECF, was a celebration of innovative ideas, sharing experiences and collective engagement. We are committed to making a meaningful contribution to our environment. Together, we can build a greener and more sustainable future for all.
